How about this one: 7 years ago, when we were in the Czech Republic (known for its crystal), I decided, heck, I'll never get here again, I'm going to remember this trip. I bought a dozen champagne flutes, a dozen wine glasses, a dozen tumblers in an elaborate etched design. (They were much cheaper than buying them here, by the way, like about 1/6th what you'd pay here.) No, I didn't try to stuff them in my carry-on. I had them shipped. Lovely. We use them for "company." Christmas Eve we used them. Mama helped me dry dishes, and broke one. She felt really bad, and asked if I could find another one. I cruelly said, "sure, next time I'm in Prague." It's on my pantry shelf. I'm convinced I can get it fixed somehow. Meanwhile, I'm sure she's forgotten the incident and my cruel response. I alone (this time, anyway) recall just how mean I can be. Hopefully you two are kind to each other with your breakage. Think of it as starting on your Christmas wish list early...
