I AM SUCH AN IDIOT

So, it’s been almost two months since I last wrote and finally I am close to having enough money saved to buy a ring worthy of Emily. Getting engaged to her has been on my mind every day since then. I have a feeling that is a good thing. This one time about 6-12 months ago she was briefly joking about engagement rings and drew in the air, with her finger, a square with a circle around it, as she chuckled. I quickly took note in my head that this may be what she liked. I had never seen anything like it (nor had I looked), but I remembered.
The last few weeks, as my bank account started to climb, I began looking at engagement ring sites, trying to find what she had drew so eloquently. Where to begin?? I google searched engagement rings and it came up immediately with 10 companies I had never heard of. This could not be a good sign. Then I looked at sites of companies I had heard of in the Bay Area, Shane Co, and Kay Jewelers. Also, another recommended by a coworker — Blue Nile. No luck at any of these sites with finding something like she had drawn. From this point I could tell it was not going to be as easy as I thought it would.
So I found a couple at Costco and Tiffany that looked like the one she drew for me. I also saw a couple others from those sites that I thought looked very nice. With so many options and none standing out, I decided to ask her friend Christine what she thought. Christine gave her opinion, but did not like the look I thought Emily liked. Then came tonight. Christine’s roommate just got engaged, so it gave Christine a good chance to talk to Emily about rings nonchalantly. We set up a plan to get some information from Emily about what she liked (since I have to surprise her). Christine brought the subject up, showed Emily some rings and everything was great. And then I blew it! I accidentally wrote in EMILY’s instant message window instead of Christine’s!! I said she should show her the rings from Tiffanys. And Emily was very confused as to why I would say that, and quickly figured out I was talking to Christine. I’m so mad at myself right now.
All is not lost though. The good news first, the two rings I was choosing between WERE Emily’s two favorites!! Out of the myriad of rings to choose from across the Internet, I had correctly picked Emily’s favorite two. If we weren’t a match made in heaven than I don’t know what is. I tried playing off my mistake as much as I could, eluding that Christine had IM’d me about rings and asking Emily if Christine was trying to hint at something. I have no idea if it worked, it’s pretty doubtful. I guess I’ll just have to make the surprise extra special…
